Definition

Central nervous system (CNS) embryonal tumors are a heterogeneous group of malignant tumors that mainly, but not exclusively, affect infants and young children. 1 They are highly cellular tumors composed of immature cells that resemble neural progenitors and have a high a propensity for disseminating throughout the neuroaxis. Among these tumors, medulloblastoma are the most common whereas other embryonal tumors, including diagnoses such as atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumors (AT/RT) and embryonal tumors with multilayered rosettes (ETMR), are exceedingly rare. 1 In accordance with their rarity, embryonal tumors are often segregated into two main groups: i) medulloblastoma, and ii) other embryonal tumors. 2
