Definition

Non-neoplastic salivary gland lesions, with virtually no potential for malignant transformation ,include nodular oncocytic hyperplasia (oncocytosis)  and lymphoepithelial sialadenitis. No genetic investigations have been so far reported. Unfortunately, cytologic findings of oncocytosis by FNA can also overlap with those of many benign and malignant salivary conditions. 1 Lymphoepithelial sialadenitis (LESA) is a benign autoimmune lesion, is closely related to Sjögren's syndrome.  Additional diagnostic methods may be needed in such cases, since there is a major risk factor for B-cell lymphoma among patients with primary Sjögren’s syndrome. 2
