Definition

Odontogenic and Maxillofacial Bone Tumors encompass cysts of the jaws, odontogenic tumors, giant cell lesions and bone cysts, and bone and cartilage tumors.

The molecular findings in odontogenic cysts and tumors play a significant role in pathogenesis, but at least for now, none are defining characteristics. 1,2

The CTNNB1/Wnt aberrations are shared with other head and neck, ghost cell-containing tumors, both non-odontogenic (i.e., adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma and pilomatrixoma) and odontogenic (dentinogenic ghost cell tumour, ghost cell odontogenic carcinoma.
