Classification

Definition

Paratesticular mesothelial tumors include well-differentiated papillary mesothelial tumor and mesothelioma, which typically arise in the tunica vaginalis, and adenomatoid tumor, which typically occurs in the epididymis.

Genetics

Summary table(s)

Paratesticular mesothelial tumorsGenetic event(s)
Adenomatoid tumourAdenomatoid tumours harbor pathogenic TRAF7 alterations, which lead to upregulatin of NF-KB signaling and overexpression of L1CAM. 1 Unlike mesotheliomas, they do not harbor CDKN2A, NF2, or BAP1 alterations.
Well-differentiated papillary mesothelial tumourWell-differentiated papillary mesothelial tumor harbors pathogenic TRAF7 alterations that lead to lead to upregulatin of NF-KB signaling and overexpression of L1CAM. 2 They also harbor pathogenic FBXW7 alteration, but lack BAP1, NF2, CDKN2A,DDX3X,SETD2, and ALK alterations seen in mesothelioma. 2
MesotheliomaAnalysis of mesotheliomas of the tunica vaginales has shown that these neoplasms harbor pathogenic NF2, CDKN2A, and BAP1 alteration, with CDKN2A and PHB2 alterations being less frequent than in pleural mesotheliomas. 3
